In a strange twisted turn of events… AffSpot is being actively web crawled by the Huffington Post. What? The Huffington Post has a web crawler? Yeah, that’s what I said too. And why do they have a crawler, and what are they crawling, and just what is up with that?
Like I’ve said in previous posts, we here at AffSpot really watch our web logs closely. Very closely. The reason being is if we can help clarify, see trends, etc. in how AffSpot works then that can only help you.. our Affiliate Marketing AffSpotters. And in doing so we’ve seen alot of crawlers, scrapers, etc. come and go. But we were totally floored in seeing AffSpot being crawled by the Huffington Post.
Okay, I can see where a couple of the posts in the AffSpot Affiliate Forum could have been picked up as being a little political (I mean, last years election, all of our CafePress Affiliates, all that political merchandise, etc.). But no, that’s not what they were crawling. They’re crawling nearly every new thread posted on AffSpot.
Now, this can only mean a couple things to me. Either the Huffington Post is getting ready to open their own search engine and compete with Google and Bing (and Yahoo too), or all the recent news about Affiliate Marketing, Nexus Sales Tax efforts in some states, etc. have become more interesting to more than just the Affiliate Marketing community.
Have you noticed the Huffington Post crawling your sites? Oh, do let us know. Click that discussion link (lower, lower, on the right.. no, your other right) and let’s talk about it.
