Sometimes you’ll read something and you think “WOW”… I had that moment again yesterday with a thread at the AffSpot Affiliate Marketing Forum. Daniel is a “noob”, doesn’t know anything about SEO, PPC, etc., etc., etc. He was obviously frustrated and was asking for help “going blackhat” thinking that it’s easier than just doing it right in the first place.
Doug (an AffSpot Member) managed to set him straight while giving a simple roadmap to the first things Daniel should do to get his site up and running and boost his SEO from the word go. Without any boring diatribes or complex detail that would only confuse our poor hapless Daniel.
But let’s let Doug tell it himself.. Just as he wrote it on the AffSpot Affiliate Marketing Forum:
Okay… Let’s help you out some because right now your all screwed up.
Quit listening to people who don’t know crap about SEO. The only reason SEO is hard is because you have to sort through all the excrement put out there by people who don’t know crap about SEO but know how to sell a bill of goods.
What you need to know, is what to do, and in what order to do it. It’s just that simple. There is no such thing as blackhat/whitehat. There are only strategies and ways to implement those strategies.
Try this… You’ll see results very quickly. Once you’ve done this there will be about a two week lag for all the search engines to catch up with you. Take that time to ask every question you can think of.
Build a Good Site. Write it yourself and be original. Don’t copy people. Just be yourself.
Make the site look good. Shift the layout, buy some good graphics. Tweak your text and make it look good.
Add your affiliate links. Not too much, but more than one or two is just fine. Make the products your pushing relevent to your site. If your talking turkey hunting then link to a few hunting offers, camo gear, safety vests, etc. If your site is about cats then get offers for cat food, flea collars, but whatever your site is about the products go along with it. Selling acai berry diet scam pills on a site about old west history won’t work.
use pingomatic.com and let the search engines know your site is ready. Only do it once.
Go build a page at squidoo, hubpages, webpaint, and a few others. Make them link to each other once and to your main website two or three times (to different pages of your site).
build out a myspace, facebook, and twitter for your website. Tie the myspace and facebook to the RSS output of your twitter account. Update it, and tweets show up on the other two. Make the myspace and facebook point to both your circle of squidoo, hubpages, wetpaint sites and your main site. Main site always being linked to more.
There you go.. basic SEO 101. You can’t do anything else productive til you get this part done.
Is that what your looking for? It’s work, deal with it. Update this thread and I’ll watch out for your posts/questions. Your obviously a complete noob so fine. We were all noobs once.
And there you go… Good Job Doug!
