As many of you know in the last couple weeks my father fell ill, and passed away.  It’s been tough.  But through it all, your thoughts and prayers expressed to my family and me have been both a comfort and have given that extra measure of strength we all needed.

In some businesses there are little, if any, real connections made with people.  Fortunately, working with all of you is an exception and it is both a privilege and an absolute joy to be able to have friends as well as business relationships with you all.

One of you sent me an email that contained the quote “some say life is too short, others say it is too long, but I know that nothing that we do makes sense if we don’t touch the  hearts of others…….while it lasts!”.  And that you all certainly have done.

On behalf of myself and my family, we all thank you so very much.

Burl M. Medlock, age 79, of Gordonville passed away Monday, January 10, 2011 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church (Gordonville Missouri) Building Fund or the donor’s choice.

An AffSpot Christmas Toast

The holiday season offers us all a special opportunity to extend our personal thanks to our friends, and our very best wishes for the future.

It has been a terrific year for AffSpot. As you know I extended my relationship with AffSpot from a host/administrator to the privledge and responsibility for AffSpot in it’s entirety.

So it is now that we as a group and individually gather together for the holiday I and my family wish to you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We consider all of you friends and extend our wishes for good health and good cheer.

It is people like you who make AffSpot such a pleasure all year long. AffSpot is a source of pride to us. With people like you, we find working each day a rewarding experience.

Affiliates Beware…  If your using a Thawte “Web of Trust” email certificate November 16th is the last day.  Thawte is discontinuing their “Web of Trust”. But that’s not all.

Loads of Java applications use the Thawte Web of Trust.  Which I would imagine (and have only found two examples, but hey, Google it yourself) could include a large number of feed tools, widgets and the like.  And these are exactly the kinds of applications Affiliate Marketers use an awful lot of.

The “be aware” part of this is that you may be using a Thawte Web of Trust item and not even know it.  For example, if the developer/provider of that data feed widget was using a Thawte Web of Trust certificate and they don’t read this blog (or Slashdot, it’s the only two sources I’ve found so far).  November 16th could roll around and the widget may just stop working.  Not good.

So, if your using a Thawte Web of Trust personal/email/etc Certificate you need to read the FAQ about it (that link is a Google Cache BTW…  Thawte’s site is being hammered from Slashdot right now).

Is this the end of the world..  No.  It’s just time to be a little bit careful and check things out.  You’d hate to have features of your affiliate sites go down because of a Thawte Web of Trust Certificate failure on November 16th.

BTW…  If you have a Thawte Web of Trust Certificate read that FAQ!  You can get a free Verisign Certificate to replace it (looks like it’s good for a year).

Slashdot Article about Thawte discontinuing Web of Trust

In the “Age of Blogging” we’re kind of a latecoming early adopter.  Latecoming in that, well, we’ve started a little “late in the game” with a blog.  But an early adopter because in real life we’ve all been blogging on AffSpot for a long time now.  Just in a Forum format.

And we love our AffSpot Affiliate Forum.  But the forum format is a tad limiting when we want to include some instruction, information, and the odd opinion where a longer format makes more sense.  The hard part of this is getting all the software to “play nice” with each other.

Well, as Yogi Berra famously said “It’s always best to start in the beginning”.  So this is our beginning of the AffSpot the Blog.  And yes, we’re getting all the software to play nice so when you log on to AffSpot Affiliate Forum it will automatically be recognized here…  and visa/versa.  Be patient with us on that one.  But it’s coming.
